Microsoft is working on a touch-enabled smartwatch, reports The Wall Street Journal. Citing unnamed supply chain sources, The Journal claims that Microsoft asked Asian suppliers to ship components for the device.
If the reports are true, it would be joining the likes of Apple, Samsung, Google, and others looking to capitalize on a forecasted boom in wearable electronics.
Microsoft has so far refused to comment on the rumors.
This wouldn't be Microsoft's first shot at making a smartwatch. Back in 2004 it fielded a product under the name SPOT that used FM radio signals to send instant messages from Windows Messenger, news headlines, stock information, and weather forecasts as part of a paid subscription service.

To at least one retired Australian rear admiral, their actions are life-threatening, counter-productive, and even have the potential to destabilise the Asia Pacific region. To many in the global environmental movement, though, the sea-borne activists from the Sea Shepherd conservation group are brave and buccaneering heroes.
Normally each year they engage in what begins as a high seas game of cat and mouse with the Japanese whaling fleet in the vast Southern Ocean, and ends with perilous collisions and clashes.
This year, because the Japanese fleet was late in leaving port, Sea Shepherd was lying in wait. It meant that for the first time in years no whales were killed in January, and that the conservationists were able to scatter the Japanese fleet, making it much harder to conduct its annual hunt.
The Japanese aim was to kill 950 whales for what they have long claimed are "scientific purposes," a definition that allows them to skirt - or flout, according to anti-whaling governments and campaigners - the international moratorium on commercial whaling that came into effect in 1986.
This year, Sea Shepherd believes fewer than 100 whales have been harpooned - a figure which the Japanese do not dispute but did not confirm.

No matter how many races one runs, there's nothing like that euphoric moment of pushing through the pain to complete 26.2 miles. Willits soaked in the atmosphere along Boylston Street. People lining the road cleared a path when they saw she was a runner. They congratulated her and made her feel like a celebrity.
She texted a friend waiting down the street at the bar at the Mandarin Oriental hotel. "I'm on my way," Willits said.

Hong Kong to investigate ferry crash
Ferry crash concerns commuters, tourists. "First it was up to here and then here. The water rose so quickly," one woman, who declined to be named, told CNN affiliate i-Cable at the time. "We thought we were going to die for sure."
According to the Hong Kong Fire Services Department, which led the rescue, the vessel began to sink quickly after the impact. It said low visibility and many obstacles on board made work difficult for rescuers.
The narrow sea lanes leading into Hong Kong's main deepwater harbor are some of the busiest in Asia, with giant commercial freighters, ocean liners, passenger ferries and private boats of all sizes sharing the waters.
Hong Kong is home to more than 200 outlying Islands, including Lamma. Hong Kong Island is on the south side of Victoria harbor, with Kowloon forming its northern shore. North of Kowloon lie the New Territories, which stretch all the way to mainland China.
